Mazda North American recently announced updates to its popular SUV, the 2022 CX-5. Updates to the SUV include exterior design tweaks and the addition of AWD to the engine.
If you’re interested in buying the 2022 Mazda CX-5, you’ll want to know these new relevant updates. Read more to know if these can be the deciding factors for you when you purchase the popular SUV.
New Turbo Models of Mazda CX-5
The new 2022 Mazda CX-5 will be offered in five trim levels: Touring, Grand Touring, Turbo, Sport, and Turbo Signature.
The Grand Touring Reserve has been replaced with the new 2.5 Turbo trim. The new trim features a special exterior and interior design that would differentiate them from the other trims.
The Turbo sits between the Grand Touring trim and Signature trim levels. It features a gloss-black exterior and red accents.
The Signature trim has also been upgraded to look more upscale. It now features coloured pieces around the wheel instead of plastic cladding.
Mazda CX-5 Hardware Tweaks
Under the hood, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 is powered by a 2.5-litre engine. The lower trims have a naturally aspirated inline-4 engine. Meanwhile, the Turbo and the Turbo Signature sport a turbocharged version of the engine.
The former produces 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. On the other hand, the turbocharged engine boasts 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.
As the standard, both engines come with the all-wheel-drive (AWD) and are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The AWD feature can help manipulate the base engine accelerations. All models of the new Mazda SUV also have a maximum speed of 130 mph.
Mazda CX-5’s Fresh and Updated Style
Mazda North American also introduced a new and updated style to the 2022 Mazda CX-5. The CX-5 is made to look better with the LEDs at the front and rear.
The vehicle’s intake grille doesn’t have the mesh design anymore. Mazda ditch the old design and replaced it with a three-dimensional texture.
The taillights have rectangular-shaped LEDs. Like the outgoing model, the SUV still has dual-exhaust pipes.
The car also boasts a beautiful set of aluminum alloy wheels. The wheels give the car a modern touch and an urban vehicle feel.
In terms of dimensions, the new SUV will have the same length, height, width, wheelbase, and ground clearance as the outgoing model. But, the curb weight of the car may be higher than its predecessor’s.
When compared side-by-side with the outgoing model, the Mazda CX-5 2022 is designed to look more elegant.
Not only are its headlights are more distinctive, but its grille is also more noticeable because of the wings that extend outwards toward the car’s headlights and a new textured mesh.
